We are asking your support for our nomination of your street as part of the Davidson Scenic Byway. Scenic byways give visitors and residents a chance to experience North Carolina’s history, geography and culture, while also raising awareness for the protection and preservation of these treasures.
Beginning on NC 115 at the Historic Marker on the Iredell/Mecklenburg line, and continuing on N. Main St to Concord Rd, the route would proceed east to Grey Rd, then turn north to the Iredell line, then south on Shearer Rd, ending at the entrance to Fisher Farm Park. You may view a map of the six-mile-long route by clicking here, or send your comments to dlc@davidsonlands.org.
Our proposed scenic route traces the evolution of a unique community that was sparked by a commitment to higher education and civic engagement and is sustained by its historic and rural origins and its commitment to its natural assets.
N.C. Scenic Byways vary in length from three to 173 miles, and are publicized on the website www.ncdot.gov/~scenic .
The only restriction that designation as a NC Scenic Byway imposes is a prohibition of billboards. Offsite commercial signage is already prohibited in Davidson by local ordinance.
Watch for announcement of a public comment session at Town Hall, Tuesday, July 23, 10:00 – 2:00 and 5:00 – 7:00. Please attend and encourage your neighbors to do so.
