Thank you to all who have entered Run for Green 2014!  As of this writing, over 700 runners have signed up for one of our events, and we’re on track for a record turnout on September 20th.  Here are a few final reminders for those who have signed up:

Packet Pick Up

Packet pickup is Thursday from 4-8, and Friday from 10-8 at Omega Sports in the Northcross shopping center in Huntersville.  You can also pick up your packet on race day beginning at 6:00 a.m.  at the Village Green in Davidson (for those of you not familiar with Davidson, the Village Green is race headquarters and just yards from the start and finish line).

Omega Sports offers a 20% discount on any purchases made by Run for Green participants the day of packet pick up.  Please support Omega Sports, who has supported us for many years!

Race Day Registration and Start Times

You can still register for Run for Green race day morning beginning at 6:00 a.m. at the Village Green.  BUT, based on current registration numbers we anticipate that the half-marathon will reach its cap before race day.  So, if you’re planning to run the half-marathon, sign up NOW!

The half-marathon starts at 7:30; the 10K and 5K start at 7:40.

New this year are pace runners for the half-marathon.  Look for pace runners with times from 1:30 to 2:30 in 15 minute increments.

Parking Arrangements:

For a map of the following parking locations, please click here.

1. Lake Norman Christian School

2. Community School of Davidson
404 Armour Street
Shuttle bus will run between 6 and 11 (note: this is about 3/4 mile from the Village Green, so it could serve as a nice warm-up). This lot is for runners and spectators.

3. Davidson United Methodist Church
253 S. Main St
runners and spectators

“On-street spaces and public lots are available, but be aware of posted time limits.”

Weather Policy:

Races are held, rain or shine, unless Sisu Events determines that conditions are too dangerous. This will be based on a prudent decision made on race weekend or race day by Sisu Events and local law enforcement officials. If the race is canceled due to inclement weather there will be neither refunds nor transfers. This position is consistent with USA Track & Field recommendations and with the protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of running. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, Sisu Events reserves the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race.

Got (Chocolate) Milk? Beer?

After the race, chocolate milk will be available at the finish line and a free beer at Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse by the starting area (Proof-of-age and your running bib are required for the beer.)

Say ‘Hello’ to Margaret!

91-year old Half-Marathoner Margaret Hagerty of Concord, NC, who has participated in all nine Run for Green events, will again compete in Davidson on Saturday, September 20. After having set all North Carolina age group records for the half-marathon, 10K and 5K, Margaret will be running the 10K with us this year. Margaret says she is also in the Guinness Records Book as the oldest person to compete in marathons on all seven continents. Look for Margaret among the 900 expected runners and give her a special cheer.

Free Socks!

Come to the Thorlo/YogaVibes tent after the race on the Village Green and claim a free pair of Thorlo socks if you were one of the first 300 paid registrants.  See why with Thorlo “your feet will feel better!”

YogaVibes Challenge!

YogaVibes, the leading online yoga company, is offering cash prizes and a free one year membership to the top three Davidson College students in each event, by gender.  If you’re a Davidson College student, come to the YogaVibes/Thorlo tent to see if you’ve won!

Green Village Exhibition!

After or before the run, be sure to visit our exhibitors booths at the Village Green.  In addition to a stage filled with entertainment and a Recovery Zone where you can get a massage, these exhibitors have gift items and lots of running-related information and conservation-related activities for you and your family and friends.  Check out these exhibitors:

Omega Sports, Carolina Thread Trail, Davidson Day School, Adjusting the World Chiropractic, SNAP Fitness, Davidson College Herpetology Lab, Thorlo/YogaVibesMSC Industrial Supply, Davidson Farmers Market, Lake Norman Realty, Davidson Lands Conservancy, World of Wonder, Trees Davidson

Sustainability Seal!

Run for Green is produced according to an earth-friendly, sustainable model.  Look for Davidson Day School students volunteering at Sustainability Ambassadors and facilitating features such as VIP parking for carpoolers, valet parking on the Village Green for those who bike to Run for Green, local chocolate milk at the finish line, composting and recycling of waste items, a virtual goody bag, and lots more.

Thank you again for your support of Run for Green and the Davidson Lands Conservancy!
